NorthEast United FC's youth team has been making waves in the Reliance Foundation Developmental League (RFDL), for their exceptional campaign so far. In the regional qualifiers, which featured six teams from the Assam-Meghalaya region, the NEUFC squad secured victories in all their group stage matches and earned a resounding qualification for the national round.
The team's impeccable record speaks volumes about their dominance on the field, scoring an astonishing 30 goals while conceding only 2 and averaging an impressive three goals per game.
Speaking about his team’s performance, Head coach Naushad Moosa said, “As a coach, I believe our players have not yet tapped into their full potential. While our performance has been commendable so far, we must realize that the next stage will pose new challenges against stronger opponents. It is important for us to remain grounded and focused. We cannot let our current success overshadow the hard work and dedication required to excel at the next level."
Guiding the team with his expertise NEUFC Head of Youth Development and India U-23 National Team head coach, Naushad Moosa, won the first two seasons of the RFDL with Bengaluru FC.
Leading the charge on the field is captain Shighil Nambrath, whose leadership has been instrumental in the team's success. Supported by standout performers such as Laishram Danny and Akshat Mehra, who have emerged as top scorers with seven goals each.
However, it's not just about attacking that sets NEUFC apart. The team's defensive resilience has been equally commendable, with a solid backline lead by former India U19 international, Jahangir Shagoo, with the most (8) clean sheets across all regions.
As they prepare for the next round of the RFDL, NorthEast United FC's youth team will look to continue their momentum, and be ready to face new challenges. With their unbeaten run and remarkable performances thus far, NEUFC's young stars are undoubtedly ones to watch out for in the upcoming matches.
