High Flying Highlanders sink Odisha to go 3rd

14 February 2021 | NorthEast United Media
A Luis Machado brace, a couple of assists from in form Gallego and Brown's 4th goal in 5 matches helped the Highlanders beat Odisha FC 3-1 at the Tilak Maidan and reach 3rd in the Hero ISL Table.
On the attack from the very first moment the Highlanders found the net in the 9th minute after Luis Machado found the net with a sweetly timed volley. 10 minutes later, Brown slotted home an exquisite pass from Gallego. In the 23rd minute, Machado headed from close range to triple the advantage for the Highlanders. With the boys running riot and looking like hitting the back of the net every time they had the ball, the break couldn’t come sooner for Odisha. A sharp strike from Brad Inman which deflected off Mashoor, gave the visitors something to take home at the break.
With the score at 3-1, the Highlanders decided to play an overall balanced game in the 2nd half as the visitors looked to find a way back into the game. The chances though continued to come at both ends with Brown's 1 on 1 being saved by Arshdeep, the biggest chance for the Highlanders in the 2nd half. At the 85th minute, left back Gurjinder Singh was sent off following his 2nd yellow on the night, forcing Coach Khalid to bring on Fox and Lakra to shore up the defence for the final few minutes. Despite a few scares, the Highlanders managed to see off the rest of the match with the score at 3-1 and take home all the valuable 3 points.
The Highlanders will next face Chennaiyin FC at the Bambolim Stadium
